Sistas on the Links Golf Club Empowers Bay Area Women to Tee It Up

Everyone should feel like they belong when they join the game of golf.

Sistas on the Links aims to empower women of all ages and skill levels to get out on the course. With more than 110 women in the Bay Area teeing it up on the regular basis, the program has built a community to hone their skills within.

“We want to continue to nurture women, build them up and help them feel comfortable and that they belong on the golf course,” President and Founder Janet Johnson said. “It’s a real joy to see the light bulb go on.”

By focusing on the development of their players through coaching, regular play, practice and mentorships, Sistas on the Links has enabled countless women to get on the course. The program has even seen four junior players — dubbed the “Lil Sistas” — go on to play collegiately at the Division I level.

Golf can be a challenge, especially for new golfers. But Johnson & the organization take the extra steps to ensure the women have the tools they need to succeed in their journey.

“Don’t be too hard on yourself and don’t measure yourself against people you are playing with,” Johnson shares with new players. “It’s your game and to get better at it, if you choose to, you just have to practice.”
